  • PROGRESSIVE TAXATION WITHOUT APOLOGY

    Thursday, 25 September 2008 13:15
By Dr. Jonathan Lipow Although it is widely accepted that tax systems should be simple, efficient and fair, it is more controversial to assert that tax systems should be designed so that the burden of taxation falls disproportionately on the wealthy. Opponents of progressive taxation believe that it is unjust or at least unfair to expert the rich to pay for government services that ultimately benefit all citizens.

If you're looking for green energy stocks, one technology has already proved itself. By Dr. Jonathan Lipow A combination of environmental and geo-political challenges has made renewable energy technology one of the fastest growing segments of the global securities and venture capital markets. It seems that everywhere you turn, someone is peddling a perfectly viable technology that will convert French fries grease into jet fuel or generate electric power by harnessing the energy of fitness enthusiasts working out on treadmills and elliptical trainers.

  • OIL SENSE AND NONSENSE

    Thursday, 20 October 2005 00:00
The oil price rise is generating some absurd analysis, but also interesting opportunities. Jonathan Lipow With oil "stabilizing" in the $60-70 per barrel range, there has been a lot of talk about the impact of high oil prices on global output and inflation. Nearly all of this talk is simply a distraction. What investors have to focus on is the long run implications of higher oil prices, and what this means for portfolio strategy.

According to many Americans, the Chinese policy of linking their currency to the U.S. dollar constitutes an unfair trade practice.
